Organise and Prioritise
It’s been a hectic week! At work I have had a demanding project with tight deadlines to meet that has sapped most of my enthusiasm and motivation for doing any theme work. I’d much rather do the themes and forget the job but that doesn’t pay the bills. That’s life! Actually I like my job but like any job it’s not all good - you have to take the rough with the smooth.
I have had a few interesting offers this week for commercial theme work and an exiting offer form a guy that runs a high profile website that would like me to work with him on a new project. I’m not going to much about this as it is still in the very early stages and don’t want to pre-empt anything. Needless to say this all come as a surprise. I hadn’t expected this sort of attention form cobbling together WordPress themes.
I also seem to have got a million emails again this week. I try to answer each one but I am getting to the stage where I spend more time answering emails than doing anything else. I am becoming a forum! I have often though that a forum my be a good idea for theme support as many questions are the same over and over again and a forum would act as an FAQ as well as a place to ask new questions. I’ll think about that some more.
Some of the questions have just been basic WordPess stuff so maybe it would be a good idea for me to write the odd WordPress theme tutorial. There is the brilliant WordPress Codex where a lot of information can be found but maybe it needs to be easier to understand as sometimes the Codex can be a little complicated.
All of this, I think, means that I need focus and to organise and then prioritise what I am doing in an attempt to actually get things finished. I have a number of things I would like to do. One of which is create my own html and css templates which may eventually become WordPress themes. I have 3 basic designs that would make ideal themes with a bit of work. This will take time though as I work out where I am going from here.
One of the things that seemed a good idea, and it is, but it hasn’t helped me get things done was the Theme Development Blog that I set up. This has just created more email and questions and taken more time away so maybe next time I will develop the theme quietly and not say anything until release.
All of this may sound like I don’t value your comments and suggestion or the people that use these themes that need help. I do, but I only have so much time in a day and can’t do everything.
What do you want - more themes or more talk?
