WP-Andreas09 Version 2.0 Released
I have just uploaded what I think will be the final version of WP-Andreas09. That is unless there are any bugs lurking that I haven’t spotted.
For those of you that do not know WP-Andreas09 is a WordPress port of an open source template called andreas09 by Andreas Viklund.
WP-Andreas09 now has full support for the Widgets plug-in and at long last features comments on pages. The comments on pages are enabled by default so if you don’t want them on a page they will need disabling in the “Write Page” options.
More information about how to use Widgets and can be found on the WordPress Wigets Blog.
More information and download can be found on my WP-Andreas09 page.

[...] After many weeks of development and testing, Ainslie Johnson has now released version 2.0 of the WP-Andreas09 theme for WordPress, and it is just a great update! The new features include support for dynamic multi-level subpage menus and the new widgets, and you can choose between 14 different colorschemes/backgrounds that are selectable through a separate theme settings page in your administration area). The theme also supports localization (l10n) features that makes it easy to translate the theme into your own language, and a calendar has been added. If you liked version 1.5 of the theme, I am pretty sure that you will love this update. [...]

WP Andreas 09 1.5 was a very good theme, this 2.0 version is even better. Thanks to both of you for making it available.

Dang you, now I’ve got to add all the crap I put into 1.7. May you suffer mightily for keeping me gainfully occupied. May you be afflicted by too much money at the end of the month.

Yes yes yes, Ainslie is the best.

Check this out: Widgets Blog» WP-Andreas09. Is “she” correct? Andreas posted The gender post some time ago which was really funny. We don’t have such puzzling possibilities in Czech language. Everything is clear in the first sentence. English is more cryptic

Hi!
Just installed 2.0; one question where can i access the Wordpress Widget Plugin? I do not see it in any configuration dialog
Greetings

That’s weird. I just had to activate the plugin (plugin tab) then the sidebar was available from the presentation tab. With WordPress 2.0.
Silly question: Did you upload the plugin to your wp-content folder?

Hi there everybody, I’ll try to answer a few comments one by one.
Alan, thank you, may your blog look better than it did before
Karl, thank for your kind comments and generous donation. Assuming you have uploaded, and activated the Widgets plug-in, there should be a Widgets Sidebar tab under the presentation menu after you have selected WP-Andreas09. Let me know if you need help.
Calaf, Thank you, and well spotted. Yes you are correct, I am male and not female as they suggested at the WordPress Widgets Blog. Ainslie is an unusual name in England and mostly male but in the USA I’m not sure. It’s not a big deal, I can see all those male geeks rushing to check out Miss Ainslie’s Blog
WRNC, The whole widgets plugin folder should go in wp-content/plugins/ - actually looking at the help file there are numerous options where you can put all the bits that come with in the widgets folder but keeping it all together seems the best idea.

Hi Ainslie
I know, I know, I was trying to answer Karl

Sorry mate, got carried away there. I am in answering mode! I’m getting hammered by emails at the moment. Seems this latest update is popular.

I hope it’ll be more and more popular. I’m thrilled to see how good the blog looks. Neat and pro, already got some nice feedback. Thanks to you.

Hi,
Categories structures can be configured via widget!
The only thing is the shown number per category - it’s on new line under the Category;

how do you get localization? Is it a plugin?
April 25th, 2006 at 11:53 am
‘how do you get localization? Is it a plugin?’
Hi Wrnc, did you ask me?
I put the german localized WP into an english localized with an Entry in wpconfig.php - it was the WPLANG attribute.

You guys have been busy,
I’ll see if I can clarify things more in a post later once I get home.
There may be one or two things that need fixing. I was not happy with the way the category count worked either. I have also had reports of some of the widget localisation not working, but others have said it is so I am not sure yet.
I still wonder if a support forum would be a good idea? At least I may not to have to answer the same questions over and over

I love this theme! My only problem at the moment however is that if you have multiple pages, they are shown vertically using Firefox and Horizontially with IE (which is what I would like to see)
Anyone else seen this?
Other than that I LOVE IT! Thanks!!
April 26th, 2006 at 2:05 pm
Oops..only seems to be a problem with Isecore Blue color option.
April 26th, 2006 at 3:34 pm
Ainslie,
I think the support forum is a great idea.
I love the theme, the widgets are great, and the localization is great too, spares me *a lot* of work.
Maybe the possibility of using gravatars would be a nice addition to the theme too?

Hi Ainslie,
this is the best wordpress theme I’ve come across. Widgets work flawlessly and now I can add/remove items from my side bar on fly. Other cool feature is the different colour support. I’ve just changed my blog to this theme. You can check Nirlog.com. Congratulations and thanks for your great work.

Hi Ainslie,
luv the the theme, especially the 3-column version.
However, I have a little problem with floating or aligned images in my posts. There is a discrepancy between Firefox and IE. As you know wordpress uses the
''tags in posts. Whenever you hit ‘enter’ you create a new paragaph.When I use floating images in the same post, Firefox puts the paragraphs nicely around the image. IE puts the next text paragraph UNDER the image and leaves a BIG white space next to the image.
I am trying for 2 days now to figure this out, the only solution that works so far is to manually change the post html and create a special “class” for the image.
Is there any way to make this work in both browsers without having to manually change the post html?
you can see an example by going to my blog in both browsers and look at the first post.
help GREATLY appreciated.

oops, I mean the ‘p’ tags
May 10th, 2006 at 7:24 pm
sorry for the many posts….
but I just checked the previous commenter’s (Niranjan) blog and he has the same problem. So I am not the only one.
You can see it by checking his post here:

Hi Inka,
I know there is a difference between Firefox and IE - it is actually a well know problem with the way IE handles floats.
Originally the theme had a error with the way that it handled floated or aligned images so that the comment link etc below an image was pulled up around the side of the image and the image would drop out of the bottom of the post.
It had to have a fix applied to sort it out. It is a lot better than it was but unfortunately IE still does not quite get it right.
I am afraid that I have no solution at the moment to this problem and would welcome any suggestions.
May 11th, 2006 at 2:45 pm
Update: Ainslie found the “bug”. After applying the fix, all seems to be working fine now:
If you find the following selectors in the style.css file:
.entry, .entrytext {
overflow: hidden;
}
* html .entry, * html .entrytext {
overflow: visible;
height: 1px;
}
* html .entry p, * html .entrytext p {
width: 99%;
overflow: hidden;
}
and then remove the spaces between the html and the class so that it looks
like this;
.entry, .entrytext {
overflow: hidden;
}
* html.entry, * html.entrytext {
overflow: visible;
height: 1px;
}
* html.entry p, * html.entrytext p {
width: 99%;
overflow: hidden;
}

Thanks Inka, I will change the code in the next update to the theme as it seems to work a lot better.

Thanks Inka, I was not aware of this problem. I’ve changed the code in my styles.css, as you’ve suggested and it works perfectly.
