The Changes Ahead
I though I would outline the changes that I am planning for Webgazette.co.uk now that I have my new design up. There is still more to do but I though it would be interesting to see if anybody has any thoughts or good advice.
Categories by Design
I have been putting some thought into my selection of categories. Many bloggers develop categories over time much like I have done without a great deal of thought, adding them as needed rather than to a plan. Now what I am doing is looking at what I post about and what I plan to post about. Maybe move a few posts about and edit the existing categories. Hopefully this will give me a plan to work to. You could say to keep me in my zone.
A Question of Links
If you have visited here before you may have noticed that my links pages have gone. This was because my links page code didn’t work with WordPress 2.1. Originally I had intended to just put it back as it was but I’ve been thinking! Now that the WordPress link categories have been incorporated into the normal categories maybe my links could live within the normal post structure. This way they could be put under a links category and another category that they fit into.
Themes and Templates
I have 3 separate pages for my themes and templates. I’m thinking that all these could be moved onto a single top-level page, called “Portfolio” and then link to the individual pages as needed. This would create one page with all my themes and templates in chronological order. I think this needs some more though as it could be confusing, but would look more professional.
…and a Home Page
I am also thinking about adding a home page with the excerpts from the latest posts and a few of my latest web designs. My blog would then go to a new page appropriately called “Blog”
Ok, so there you go. Anybody got any thought on this?

This is basically what I will do for my own site as well. I have some terrible categories that need to be sorted out, and I will organize my templates, themes and ports in a much more user-friendly way when I launch my new site design.
I will keep the blog on the first page, but I will multi-widgetize the front page (4-5 widget areas) to create a couple of different sections for different kinds of contents that will also get attention beside the blog. I have a nice frontpage layout idea here that I think could be interesting for you to see. Send me an e-mail if you want to see it and I’ll send you a demo template back!

Hi Andreas, Yes the categories can get a bit wild!
I don’t want to copy what you are doing but it would be interesting to see what you are doing. I’ll send you an email. Thanks.
